John Doorbar on good communication and the two R's in his life: Rugby and Religion
In the April issue of Glückskinder Live Talk, I spoke to communications trainer and true Brit John Doorbar.
John supports leaders in presenting their personality and content professionally - and with humor - in an international environment. It is important to John to understand the needs and abilities of his clients so that they can use them to achieve their individual goals.
John Doorbar and his customers have been very successful with this perfect mix for 35 years.
After studying theology at Oxford, John actually wanted to see the world, have a little adventure and spend a few years in Italy.
But the path led John directly to Mannheim, to an interesting position with career prospects. But not as a theologian. Nevertheless, John lives and cultivates spirituality to this day. It grounds him, even if the world around him sometimes goes crazy.
Happiness is being content with you.
Refine your language. Inspire others. Change the world.
But what was it like to suddenly find yourself living in Germany as a Brit and making your first contacts? John says that many of his best friends are now German, but it wasn't easy at the beginning. For example, he tried it „typically British“ in a pub. In Livetalk, he explains how it worked and his insights into mentalities.
John has a second great passion - rugby. The first time he took the ball onto the field at the age of 10, he knew - this is his game! To this day, his fascination for it has not changed. A game that requires a lot of technique and incredible skill. It also requires team spirit and mental strength, the art of communication, focus and enthusiasm - important elements for all areas of our lives.
What are the important pillars of communication for John, personally and as a coach?
- The why?
- The who?
- The what?
- The how?
It is an interplay of motivation, contact between conversation partners, a core message and empathy.
Find out what's behind it all and why John has set himself the exciting goal of getting a million followers in the interview.
